Library Sites JUST FOR FUN!!!
All work and no play makes librarian very, very boring, and turn librarian into a super awful SHOOSHING Machine. Check some of these sites out to add some brief levity to your lessons, staff developments you lead, or if you just want a giggle.
Author Name Pronunciation Guide--Ever wonder how to pronounce Jon SCIESZKA? What about YUYI Morales? Look no further than here: authors pronounce their names the RIGHT way.
FREE Online Games--ALA curated this list of free online games. This is a great thing to have posted around the library or bookmarked on the computers in your media center, so students have a quick, handy guide to refer to when done with project work...or when procrastinating so as not to do that project work.
Wonderopolis--Whenever you go to this amazing site, you will see a question, and that question will be answered for you when you click on the link. On this day, when I'm making this entry, the question is, "Can frogs freeze?" This site is great for brain breaks, if you have a little extra time at the end of class, or if you want to get the class started off on a fun foot.
Puzzlemaker--This is one of my FAVORITE websites from when I was teaching. I had a wide range of learners in my class, and some would be done with their work within 10 minutes and some would need an hour. I would always have word searches, crossword puzzles, and other fun puzzles that I created myself with the Discovery Education Puzzlemaker. IT IS A MUST for any teacher/librarian/educator!
University of Illinois Undergrad Library Pinterest Page--I worked at the UGL during the Fall of 2013, and I helped add pins to this page for that fall semester. The UGL is hoppin' place with insane outreach to the Undergrad students at UIUC. They strive to maintain several social media sites, and I get the most use out of this one. It contains book lists, movie and TV guides, holiday guides, gaming guides, and MORE!
Out of Print--Get your favorite library clothing here! I couldn't resist adding this to my resource guide, for if you want to act the part of librarian, you better LOOK the part of librarian. Get your tees, socks, tote bags, cell phone covers, and a variety of other items at Out of Print: all contained classic books, picture books, or the ole due date stamps on them.
