Here is a list of library-related organizations you can choose to join if you wish. NOTE: I am not endorsing any of these, nor do I benefit from your possible membership.
ALA--American Library Association--This is the oldest library association in the world, which was founded in 1876.
YALSA--Young Adult Library Services Association--This group is focused on librarians who long to serve and advocate for youth/teens ages 12-18.
ALSC--Association for Library Service to Children--This is the group focused on the younger side of youth, children, baby-11 years old.
AASL--American Association of School Librarians--Strarted in 1951, AASL serves and supports school librarians in the US, Canada, and around the world. This is the only national professional organization devoted to school librarians.
ISLMA--Illinois School Library Media Association--I am based in Illinois, which is why I am providing a link to this group. Formed in 1988, the members of ISLMA long to provide life-long learning opportunities for the students of Illinois.
VOYA--Voice of Youth Advocates--This group was founded in 1978 and strives to help youth librarians be advocates not only for their libraries, but for the youth who populate them. A wonderful website offers booklists, columns from the VOYA magazine, and so much more.
